The Challenge
Visitors to the University of Leeds newest building frequently got lost. The challenge was to create an intuitive, accessible indoor navigation system without installing expensive physical hardware.
The Solution
We developed a markerless augmented reality mobile app that overlays directional information onto the user's real-world view through their phone camera. Using advanced SLAM and computer vision, the app provides turn-by-turn navigation, points of interest and accessibility routes.
Results & Impact
Reduced travel time by 30%, increased accessibility for users with mobility issues and reduced led to an 81% reduction in the number of wrong turns due to confusion or signage. The solution is now being considered for other public buildings including local hospitals and museums.
